One of the most enjoyable things about having your own brewery is it allows your imagination to become reality. One of our crew has a particularly strange imagination and came up with an idea for a beer, which was a little out there to say the least…
”I was reading about a brewery in the US last night, Right Brain Brewing, they make a beer using a pigs head…Lets make a beer with a wild pigs head!”
The blank expressions on our face contrasted spectacularly with the sheer joy and happiness coming from the face of this creative mind. Go on, we said skeptically…
“Lets make a porter where we add a wild pigs head to the boil!”
Still blank expressions
“A wild pig, which is boiled and then smoked, we take its head and use it in the beer…its fantastic!”
At this point we smiled and a clearer view of his vision came upon us, but can he really be serious?
“Yes! I’ve already spoken to Jimmy, he has a wild pig which we can use…he will prepare it and we can add to the boil…it will be smokey and salty…I could be magic…”
Finally we got it.
Why not do it, it could be amazing, it could be terrible but one thing it will not be is dull. So on the 21st of April 2016 the Hogs Head Porter was born, a 50L batch made and our little pigs head in the boil for 20 minutes. In 5 weeks time we will find out if it the beer is an hamazing success or a big fat boar. (apologies for the awful puns!)
